No no Dan - you are all wrong, or spreading misinformation. According to the Toronto Star, Dean Blundell, Evan Scrimshaw, and John Ivison and most of the media (Liberal cheerleaders) - PM Mark Carney are not cutting or bringing in austerity. Only Stephen Harper, Andrew Scheer, Erin O’Toole, and Pierre Poilievre do austerity. The PM is an economic genius who is simply re-prioritizing spending errr “investments” from things like health care, housing, infrastructure, to more productive “investments” in the war in Ukraine, the EU, UN, Climate Change in order to inflict maximum pain on Donald Trump. Elbows up! 😵💫
Usually, LPC spending “cuts” aren’t really cuts. If, say, a government department asks for an 8% budget increase, and only gets a 4% increase, then they’ve “cut” spending by 4%. Those are usually referred to by government employees as “Draconian”, Draco being the Athenian lawmaker who prescribed the death penalty for petty crimes because they deserved it and the death penalty for serious crimes because he didn’t have a worse penalty than death (according to Plutarch, at least).
When Paul Marin was FinMin, he added a new rule that let departments grandfather ten percent of their budgets and carry it forward to the next fiscal year, instead of the annual rush to “use it or lose it” by year-end which causes so much embarrassment every year when the Auditor-General’s report comes out. This provision let them keep the cash for next year instead of pissing it away and asking for more next year. I remember reading that in a federal budget (not that glossy Eatons Catalog thingy that Justin and Christia swan around with on budget day, but the complete document you have to pay to get a copy of), and immediately thought that it should be possible to slash spending by ten percent across the board without affecting the delivery of government services by one iota.
If Marx Carnage and Co. Are serious about austerity, they should reduce the number of government employees by ten percent; they should make all government employee pensions, including those of MPs, defined contribution plans; they should eliminate all NGO funding (that makes them into GOs); it should eliminate all funding of UNRWA (on moral, if not fiscal grounds); they should shut down the federal infrastructure bank and the Business Development Bank (letting the government own a bank is never a good idea. A two word example: Credit Lyonnaise); every single provincial regional development agency (Ontario has two) should be shut down, they are purely pork-barrel projection channels and produce little or no actual development. Their main purpose is to provide part-time employment to rural workers whose pogey (that’s UI for you city folks) has run out so they can requalify for unemployment benefits.
Anyway, those are for starters, off the top of my head. One might think that all those highly paid civil servants should be able to think of lots more ways to save taxpayer money, at least, they could if they cared to. But cutting spending doesn’t work for them or their unions, while increasing spending does. Which, of course, is how we got here in the first place.
No, the ones I talk to are like “Yeah but just think what it would be like if Poilievre won!” They actually believe the propaganda coming from our countries newsrooms.
No kidding! The biggest problem is that the Liberals just slashed the RCMP’s budget when crime is rampant in Canada. Why are they not cutting programs like DEI and Climate Change? What about the gun buybacks that haven’t actually gotten a single gun?
I’m 64 and I have worked since I was 15.EVERY pay check I earned had CPP taken off and kept by the government, you know for my future benefit🙄. Well every day in this country a foreigner steps off a plane or crosses the border and is eligible to receive CPP. Not a meager stipend but the max allowed by the CPP. There is no way this can last. Must be the Conservative’s fault.
In any bureaucracy, those devoted to the benefit of the bureaucracy itself inevitably gain control while those dedicated to the original objectives of the bureaucracy struggle to maintain their progressively declining influence and are often eliminated entirely.
My take? Canada's a target rich environment for purging these miscreant inter-poseurs, starting with healthcare.
Looks like the liberals were right. You could say that the liberals said that if I voted for Poilievre we would get austerity. I voted for Poilievere and sure enough we have gotten austerity.
How do we unload this new old government. After ten years of Trudeau now we have more of the same. The Liberals lied to win. Carney ran with most of Pierre’s plans. Then called Pierre the man that would destroy everything. Liars prevail. Truth and honesty doesn’t stand a chance in this Canada. I will stand with Pierre every time.

Yes Dan. And on top Of all,Mr Canary missed that Carney is doing all this for our “ safety” .
Lol
How the F did the scurrilous, deceiving, failed ministers like Freeland and Joly and Miller get re elected?
I’m sad. Still living in a conservative riding surrounded by the most honorable of assimilated Canadian immigrants , the Dutch
It’s Only a small area here, but I’m happy and cuddle up with my dogs and a warm blanket at night knowing this liberal nightmare will pass.
Keep the faith.
Faith and hope are all that true Canadians have anymore.
And Liberals believe that!
Same fiscal plan
Conservatives reported as “drastic spending cuts”
Liberals reported as “potential savings”

Harry, thanks, you have a good sense of the longanimity of Canadians as we endure the trickery.
I bet the elbows up crowd wishes they had voted conservative now 🙄 🤣 😂... we live in clown world

You can't fix stupid. One day they'll figure it out (I hope).
No such thing. They love everything Carney says and does.

True and depressing for many Canadians, those who do not aspire to CBC indoctrination.

Liberals often run elections from the left and govern from the right. Except for our former glorious leader.

If only…

Disgusting, lying WEF pigs.
